The symposium “From Shortage to Opportunity – Attracting Skilled Workers for Secure Digitalization” on 21 June 21 2023 was organized by the Competence Center for Safe Austria (KSÖ) and the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. The aim of the conference was to discuss possible solutions to address the shortage of skilled workers in the cybersecurity and IT industry. During the symposium, the challenges of the shortage of skills in these key areas were defined and participants, including entrepreneurs, training providers and political representatives, agreed that common solutions must be found. It was emphasized that education and training, the promotion of part-time employment and the use of the potential of foreign workers and older workers are crucial to address the skills shortage. This report also highlights the importance of anchoring cybersecurity in society and emphasizes the role of educational institutions such as Cyber-HAK Tamsweg in preparing young people for these important future issues.
